The Cooperative Institute for Climate Applications and Research (CICAR) Advisory Committee includes representation from the Institute's director, administrative staff and senior scientists representing various Earth Institute, Columbia University, research divisions and affiliates. Committee meetings are convened at the discretion of the director and address areas of sciemtific leadership, research coordination, strategic planning and priority setting. The groups collective knowledge is a valuable resource for the CICAR Director in his decision-making responsibilities.
The CICAR Advisory Committee was reorganized in March 2010 to better address the emergent needs of the proposed NOAA Climate Service office, which will help NOAA in “providing the transparent, reliable, timely and easily accessible information that America requires.” This newly reformed advisory committee brings together academic and scientific leadership from research divisions and centers at the Earth Institute, Columbia University with expertise in data, science, engineering, health, and education. The Director and Committee will work to develop crosscutting initiatives in support of the NOAA Climate Mission Goal to “Understand Climate Variability and Change to Enhance Society’s Ability to Plan and Respond.”
